Frequently Asked Questions

About Sage Harbor & Approach

What is a chaplain?

A chaplain is a trained spiritual care provider who supports people of all faiths and none. I offer presence, deep listening, and compassionate guidance during times of change, crisis, grief, or growth—without proselytizing or imposing beliefs.

What is your philosophy of care?

Interfaith, trauma-informed, and dignity-centered. I honor each person’s story and pace; we move at the speed of trust. My work encourages the rebalancing of feminine and masculine norms in ourselves and our communities. I prioritize consent, boundaries, and embodied wisdom.

Do you work with people who aren’t religious?

Yes. We can use language and practices that fit your worldview—spiritual, humanist, yogic, ancestral, christian, agnostic, or something uniquely yours.

Services & Scope

What kinds of situations do you help with?

Grief and end-of-life, caregiver burnout, life transitions, women’s mentoring/rites, boundary work, and spiritual direction. See the Services page for details.

What are your limitations of scope?

I provide spiritual care and mentoring; I don’t diagnose or offer psychotherapy. When clinical or legal needs arise, I refer to licensed professionals.

When do you refer clients to other professionals?

Anytime needs extend beyond chaplaincy—e.g., safety concerns, complex mental health care, medical or legal issues—I collaborate and refer to appropriate providers.

Do you collaborate with therapists, clergy, or medical teams?

Yes. With your consent, I coordinate with therapists, clergy, physicians, hospice teams, and community leaders to support holistic care.

Ethics, Inclusion, & Cultural Sensitivity

What are your ethics in practice?

Confidentiality, respect, informed consent, and clear boundaries. I follow professional chaplaincy ethics and never use spiritual authority to pressure or convert.

How do you approach cultural/religious/personal sensitivity?

We begin with your language, tradition, and needs. I adapt practices to your background and welcome LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, and multicultural identities.

Logistics & Fees

How do sessions work?

Most sessions are 50–60 minutes, virtual or in-person when available. We start with a free 20-minute consult to see if we’re a good fit.

Do you offer sliding scale pricing?

Yes. I maintain a sliding scale to increase access. Please contact me for current rates and availability.

Do you accept insurance?

No. Chaplaincy and spiritual care are not typically covered by insurance. I can provide receipts for HSA/FSA at your discretion.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please give 24 hours’ notice to reschedule or cancel. Late cancellations or no-shows may be charged the full session fee.
